Creating Settings for Tiny Animal Sculpture
I am in the throes of designing and creating unique settings for my tiny ceramic, bronze and silver animal sculptures. I’m considering which metals and forms to use, trying to keep an eye of conserving materials to keep costs reasonable for most of these pieces. It would be very easy to get carried away especially as I see the setting as another opportunity to sculpt and create a world for the story behind each animal portrait.
“Memories of the Mearas”, Heraldic Horse Pendant
My imagination has long been inspired by reading the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and others. Tolkien’s world building is astounding and I found myself wishing to ride the fabulous Shadowfax, the magnificent Mearas stallion of Rohan. The Mearas are the legendary “first horses” of the land. Wise, powerful and loyal to the the righteous, they spark longing in the hearts of many horse lovers.
