Week 1, 30 Days of Simple Art

Resistance in many forms is my constant companion. I’m in the process of learning to make friends with it and with myself. A fascinating journey.

I’ll drop this week's paintings here, with a little note for each. Necessities may dictate a missed chronological day or two of actual painting but I'm not going to let that derail me.

I'm feeling my way toward my own process and techniques, discovering and rediscovering my own vision.

Having previously worked nearly exclusively to commission, the freedom to express myself my way without first considering someone else’s wants and needs is unsettling at first. I feel I’m still in my infancy here. But growth is happening. Both within and without.

Day 1:
It felt so good to paint in that first evening. It felt like coming home to myself.

Exploration, adventure and freedom. ❤

Day 2:
A lovely sense of flow and disappearing into the process. ❤
Should I tell you it took three prior attempts to finish a piece? Ah, the struggle is real. LOL
Nevertheless I am victorious. 🤩

In keeping with the landscape theme but even smaller.

Day 3:

Easily distracted by light... ;)

I thrill to the effects of light upon the land, through the trees and on anything, really. It stops me in my tracks. Simple dog walks are an immersion in wonderment.

There is a walking path near home that meanders beside a creek and marsh, then beside a pond. It’s part of a water management area for the neighbourhood. I’m so grateful that this area has been (mostly) allowed to naturalize. Many trees have been planted that are now reaching a nice age. When my dog and I walk along at just the right time of day, the sun pierces the tree cover in the most magical ways.

Day 4:

Beckoning my heart, cherished memories of time spent in cottage country.

Day 5:

My eyes are always drawn to wild, dark clouds. Fascinated by the rippling, billowing visual textures and subtle colours and always filled with wonder and somehow, hope.

And thus I must stop to gaze in wonder (unless I’m driving ;) ) and usually take photos.

I’m sneaking one more painting into this already published blog post. Probably a no-no ;) but I managed to get this done on Sunday. I suppose I’ll consider Monday to be the start of a new week. ;)
