Small Paintings, Long Titles
Standing in the shadows gazing through the trees silhouetted against the sky and sun-touched hill top thinking how wonderful the earth smells, how soft the breeze and what a blessing the birdsong is to my ears.
Is that too long a title for this little painting?
Paintings encapsulate memories and emotions in a visceral way. The more I paint, the more I want to paint.
And you? How do you revisit the wonder and delight of your journey?
In the course of painting these Ontario landscapes I discovered both a way to enjoy using acrylics (my preferences are oils and watercolour) and a way to express perception and emotion through colour. I've always felt like the Weird One, because I seè colours that most of the other people In my life simply didn't see. It made me afraid to use colour in my artwork. Using acrylics with bold, simple brush work or palette knife, lends itself particularly well to expressing and expanding the colours I see and the feelings a scene creates.
