Sawhet Owl Watercolour Painting: A Lesson In Persistence

This painting kept me grounded.

Once upon a time I painted this watercolour of a Sawhet owl with my infant son literally on my lap or in my arms - for hours on end.

He and I struggled with a thrush infection that I battled for 5 months to clear - we kept passing it back and forth and somehow the meds just didn't do the trick.
After 5 months of nursing this poor baby boy who cried and threw up almost constantly from pain (I wasn't in a position to give in to the emotions - I had two other toddlers to care for so no time for that!) I gave in and put him on a bottle. (the doctor did not advise to do it sooner)

Within days his true cheerful, contented, happy baby personality shone through. Our battle was behind. He thrived and my heart was filled with relief and satisfaction that we had made it through the struggle.

This owl painting stands as a testament to persistence and wisdom, to the intensity of emotions of motherhood and the beauty to be found there. A land most blessed.

The original belongs to my son.
