Peaceful Process in the Studio

Returning to my Studio this year has been so wonderful and I’m deeply grateful for the support and encouragement of my family and so many others.

I’m leaning in to my natural proclivity toward having several projects on the go at the same time. Every time I try to push myself and my process into the format that other people use I get stuck! I need to be able to move from project to project with ease in order to move with the natural flow of my creative energy, focus and the demands of life outside the studio.

The projects I currently have in the works are:

  1. Bronze sculpture pendants

  2. Silver sculpture pendants

  3. Larger relief sculpture on wood panels

  4. Molds and casts of the above in order to create and offer reproductions in a variety of media.

  5. Collaboration with my daughter

  6. Seeking inspiration

I’ve been working on some Bronze metal clay sculpture versions of my Wolf and Bear Story Pendants originally sculpted in polymer clay. I now have two versions of the wolf, one bear and two horses in bronze that are awaiting the heat of the kiln to become the best versions of themselves. First they must be thoroughly dry and to that end I’ve ordered a small food dehydrator. Without this sort of assistance it takes a few days to reach the dry state requirements to not blow up in the kiln.

In order to change my physical position and relieve the strain on my neck and back and arms I'm switching it up and working on a panel. I'm using palette knife and diluted paper clay slip to sculpt a bar relief horse that I will later seal and probably add use inks to emphasize texture and depth. Gold leaf is also in the plans for this piece and if all goes well it may be the beginning of a new series.
