Sculpted Personal Story Pendant Jewelry

As a child learning to control a pencil I was obsessed with trying to capture the likeness of animals. From the cows in the field next door, the horses I was already was obsessed with and the cats and dogs that filled our home.

Each attempt was harshly judged - by me! My parents inevitable encouraged me and cheered me on. I, on the other hand, ripped up drawing after drawing and started over.

I think the most important quality was simply not giving up. Persistence. Making the drawing time after time and slowly my child’s hand and eye learned to communicate and eventually grew to form a better bond.
Eventually I was drawing things for others, and then drawing and painting things for commissions to gladden another person’s heart. This was all very satisfying.
Yet at a certain point along the journey I needed to discover and rediscover what gladdened my own heart. Subjects, media, process, techniques and skills must be learned and relearned through the lens of my own heart and my own calling.
And here I am today, delving into the blissful silence of sculpting animals. Exploring their extraordinary forms and lives through clay and metal.
