Bronze Animalia: Wild Treasures Collection

I’m stepping through the doorway of risk and uncertainty into the process of realizing my dreams.

Since my childhood I have been fascinated with sculpture and particularly bronze sculptures because of the way they glow with an interior life. I have never quite had the courage to step forward in my art practice as a Sculptor until I discovered metal clay. I began as many of us do with sculpting in fine silver metal clay because it is the most reliable when it comes to the firing process.

Now I am beginning my journey in sculpting in bronze metal clay in order to realize my long held dreams of being a bronze sculptor. Yes these are tiny, intimate portraits of animals that I love and with which I feel a connection. These animals are often used as touchstones for the love I have for family members; as representations of their character and their strengths.

It is exciting to be stepping into this process. It is also scary. The failure rate with base metal clays- that is copper bronze- is higher than with fine silver. Therefore these individually sculpted, tiny delicate portraits of bear, wolves and horses may actually just self-destruct in the kiln. This is seriously scary LOL.

However there is no success without persistence through failure there is no achievement without risk there is no conquering our fears without stepping through them. Therefore I'm sharing the photos of my unfired sculptures so that I have a nice record of them before I commit them to the fire.

If you're interested in following my journey and in having Priority Access to newly released collections of work which will hopefully include these tiny bronze sculptures then please join my Studio Friends. They have Priority Access to new releases via email before I release them to the general public. I am also hoping to get some of my work represented in a gallery or in a physical shop or location and when I do I'll be letting my Studio friends no first via email.
